there is rubber trim that goes around the raised part of the gear shift. The other is the edge trim that goes around the metal plate on the base, and at the very top part (toward the A/C, there is a piece missing, and I'm not sure what that is). Is there a way to send a picture?

The outer trim piece is not missing, it is just that the plastic trim shrinks and the join opens up a bit. In the UK at least you can buy beading of this type (maybe not 100% identical but easily close enough) with a bit of hunting, and unscrew the metal piece and fit a new piece of trim. Ditto the gearshift trim.
