How rare is this car & are they worth anything much? mine has 32k miles on it,black with tan inside, wire wheels,in good shape..I have read they are pretty rare but cant confirm anything much on it..tried to register it on a jag registery but never a reply..I guess just not much info on them, has the t-top tops then the back comes off..semi convertable..any info anyone has on these cars is appreciated.
Thanks,Brian

Hi Brian, I have exactly the same car as you. 1987 XJSC. Black/Magnolia (tan), Dayton wire wheels. In case you were wondering, 243 of this color combination were imported in 1987. Of all the body styles, the Cabriolet is the rarest from the factory (Hess and Eisenhart conversions are also rare, but the exact number made is unknown). 5,014 were built worldwide, with around 1,934 imported to the US. Compare this to a total of 110,399 coupe/convertible XJS's produced during the car's lifetime. I've provided some links below from my own research. If you have any specific questions after reading, let me know.

As far as value goes, it really all comes down to condition like any XJS. In fair running condition, with above average cosmetics, you can expect to get between $7k-$9k. But you'll probably need to put another $6k worth of work into those cars on average. I recently paid around $13k for mine, but it had just had over $9k in work done over the past 12 months, was a one-owner California car, all records, etc. So, they typically don't command much of a premium over other XJS body styles right now.

That being said, and this is solely my opinion, I think that 20 years from now the Cabriolet will carry a premium over other body styles due to the rarity, assuming the XJS appreciates like the E-Type.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info guys!!.. I know there is a difference in rare & desirable..I think these cars have a future to go up with them being an odd built & low production#..I just dread repairing them, working on them to keep up,Ive heard that Jags are the only cars that can break down when parked..
