Default 88 XJS vibration after trans service

After I changed the transmission fluid on my 88 xjs I started it up to check the fluid level and noticed a vibration at idle. It gets very strong when I increase the RPMs. It was running fine before I worked on it. It doesn't seem to be a misfire but feels like it's coming from under the seat.

Could the vibration be caused by not putting the trans mount back together properly? While I had it apart I put new rubber rings on the spring and also a new bushing as the old ones were shot. I reassembled it with the spacer inside the bushing and the bushing inside the spring. The only thing I can think of is I might have put the "special" washer on wrong. Does it go above or below the mounting plate? I installed it below.

Default Figured it out?

I think I might have figured out the problem. Since my original rubber bushing was disintegrated I didn't know exactly how to put it in. The diagrams on the internet are of no help either.

However, I was reading the Kirby bible and it briefly eludes to the bushing going through the mounting plate. Is this correct? If so then I goofed as I put the bushing on top of the mounting plate. I also don't have the special washer with the rounded edges that Kirby refers to. Exactly how/where does this washer go in?

OK,

That rubber? cotton reel looking bush, #3, presses thru the steel plate. Some silicon spray and strong fingers will get that sorted.

There is only 1 spring insulator #4, on the bottom.

The "special" washer (#28) is required. If you do not have it, locate a 1/2" "flat section" spring washer, that will be fine.

The diagram attached shows the special washer and sleeve INCORRECT. As in Item 27 & 28. Item 28 goes ON TOP of #27, so it is positioned midway in that bush #3 when all assembled. That special washer acts as a damper (friction) on the inside bore of the bush, and its as simple as that.

I agree that the drawings, including this parts drawing, are vague at best. It took me many attempts many years ago to sort this out, and the older sedan 6 cylinder assembly is worse.

Default one more question

Thanks for the info. That really makes more sense. I didn't have any problem putting the the rubber bushing through the plate.

One more question. While I have it apart should I leave off the stupid bracket that bolts to the pan or should I just replace the studs with long bolts and spacers?
