1989 jaguar xjs no power to A/C compressor
Hi guys I am new to the forum and need some help with my 1989 jaguar xjs convertible the car has 26k miles and there is no power to the a/c compressor clutch. The a/c blows cold if you run a hot wire to the compressor clutch. I am not sure where the a/c switch is located (control panel knob pulls and pushes) ? I have checked all the fuses in the fuse box so I assume there is a inline fuse, relay or switch that is my problem..... Thanks for any help
This should help. Scroll down to the climate control section, noting that coupe and convertible cars are wired differently and have separate diagrams

Looks like there will be one or two in-line fuses depending on VIN. No mention of exact location. That's a nasty little trick that Jaguar loves playing :-)
Post back if more help needed
Cheers

To clarify, there is no "off-on" switch for the compressor. It will and should operate in all climate control modes, even when heat is requested. And, since you have a convertible, the compressor clutch should be powered-up even with the mode switch set to "off".
Pulling the temp control knob "out" simply provides manual temp control....versus letting the setting regulate temp

Doug is on the money as usual.
Not a 100% sure on the MK3 system, but the most common "hidden" fuse causing that fault, on the earlier system, is the one up behind the metal spout that is the air duct for the RH foot well.
Remove the console RH cheek, and look up on top, sort of in front of, the tin spout that is clearly visible, and you should see an inline fuse holder tucked into a metal clip.
Yours will be a tad easier than our RHD that have the pedals in the way. Twisting and bending in strange angles will still be required.

Guys thanks for all your help I will pull car in shop Monday and try to track down the in line fuse ..... That is sneaky I would have never know there was a hidden fuse. I will post an update Monday hopefully with good news .... Thanks
Hi guys I spent much of the day looking for this inline fuse in the passenger side foot well area as well as under the center console I did find 2 inline glass fuses under the ash trays in the center console and 1 glass fuse with a brown wire on the paasenger side front of console but no blown fuses. I did not see a metal retaining clip hidden in foot well area. Does anyone have a picture or exact location for this inline fuse for the A/C......thanks
This may be too late to help, but there is another fuse under the hood on the RH near the group of relays. It has a brown wire going to it and is a 10A fuse.

Unscrew the air grille on the cheek panel. Shove it forwards a bit to get the rearward end unclipped. Job done.
