My recent purchased XJS has several issues of which I was aware before handing over the cash. First on the list was the passenger side window regulator/motor. Window glass was propped up in the door with a piece of 2X4! Didn't find that out until after removing the door card. Anyway, the drive gear had fallen out off the gearbox shaft. No big deal I thought until I realized the shaft bushing was toast. New motors are REALLY expensive so I looked through my junk and found a bushing good on the i.d. but .035", .89mm too large on the o.d. Fashioned a way to turn down the o.d. using my drill and saved buying a new motor. Packed the gearbox with grease, reassembled and tested. After adjusting gear engagement, it works wonderfully. I'd attach the video but the file is too large. I have extensive machining experience but no equipment now that I'm retired. I really want a milling machine and a lathe but according to my wife: "You don't need a lathe, you have a drill and a file." Oh well, quitting for the evening. I'll put it all back together tomorrow and enjoy my power window. Guess I'll get better gas mileage too as I won't be carrying around that 2X4 anymore.
