Default Window motor/regulator

My fellow Jag Lovers,

I am wondering where I could find a window motor/regulator for my series 1 XJ6? My front passenger window will no longer roll up or down. I think age has caught up with it. Any help would be great! Thanks.

I think Jaguar sourced those motors from General Motors, Chevy / Buick / Pontiac of the period. At least they are GM in the Series 3 XJ.

another option is to remove it and take it to an electrical motor shop to see if it can be repaired. You will have to remove it anyway, so start there.

I would get a bright light and a camera in there to take pictures or video before removing or undoing anything, to have a reference.

Try Dave Boger at EverydayXJ.com

If he doesn't have one, I do, but I'm far away in Canada,

Good luck,

Rob

Before you absolutely convict the motor and regulator, open the console and remove and clean all the switches. A far easier task with an excellent chance of fixing the window.

S1 window switches are not like the later cars.. get a couple of spares.. first substitute the failing front window switch for one of the rear ones (they get less use)... then you will know for sure... also the window motors are different...

hey,
I have two motors that werent working. I took them apart and cleaned the commutator and brushes with a scotch bright pad. I also cleaned the metal case and commutator and rotor coils with brake cleaner (acetone). it started working then easiest fix ever. its pretty easy to take apart and put back together, just take a picture of the spring before taking it apart so you know how to put it back together.

Also take a picture of how the wires are stuck together and share it with me. i'm trying to install power windows in my car and i think i have all the bits but dont know how all the wires connect.

Default S1 window wiring

Hopefully this will help with your window wiring... the last photo is the control box located in the drivers side kick panel on the outside of the car.

Motors just have the one connector on the bottoms and the Black ground wire... colors of the wires for all the window switches are on the schematic I attached on the post above.

I never took any photos of the motor wiring inside the door... do have a photo of the regulator when I put on a new bearing to fix a worn out regulator. Finding parts for these very old cars is becoming a huge problem.
