I have a 1991 xjs. The engine is not firing on all the cylinders on the passenger side. I can smell gas but i don't see any leaks. the passenger side exhaust is much cooler than the driver side and erratic. This has happened a few timesin the past but only for a few minutes. It seems to be permanent now. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Kurt

 

You have a failure of the Marelli ignition, most likely the dual plane distributor cap and rotor, but check the coils and modules, too.

If there is any doubt as to when the plugs and wires have been changed, replace them while your at it. Gap plugs to .025"...no one iota more.

Don't drive the car !! The converter on the dead bank will fill will fuel, overheat, and possibly cause a fire.

Some guys have converted to Lucas CEI ignition which is a good system and doesn't suffer this particular type of failure.
