Default 1992 XJS headlight washer hose curiosity

Does anyone know why this headlight washer supply line is so enormous? It’s got an OD of 1” (roughly). I need to replace but before I do, was hoping someone could explain the engineering.

That does not look OEM to me Andy (just an opinion, I know nothing of facelifts); because usually a huge diameter hose connected to a washer pump cannot deliver much pressure.

Andy,

If no-one comes back to you by the weekend, I'll look at my friends 96 car with washers and see if it's the same. Looks more like reinforced garden hose pipe to me, but who knows?

I agree about the pump and pressure.
It doesnt look stock to me either but the car has 25k miles and doesnt appear to be molested. But any insights people have are great

I have a complete set from a 92 on my 84 and can confirm that the hose, although not factory, is the correct size. It's the same size as your pump outlet and jet inlet, if you look, it moves a lot of water.

I have two ‘92s with identical hose. Sorta clear with white wide mesh design.

Same engineers who did the transmission mount, inboard brakes, and half pass radiator… to name a few equally ridiculous decisions.
