I have a 1993 4.0, and I have seen some souces say it is an AJ6 and some say AJ16. Which is it?

Do you have a distributor? (yes)

You have an AJ6 engine.

Still not sure?

Is your engine black? (yes)

Or is it silver? (no)

You have an AJ6 engine.

The AJ16 engine was not released until 1995.

 

Aaaaah. Now I see. I do have the distributor and etc. thanks for the info and explanation of the differences.

 

Insteadofarolex,

Apart from one or two development cars, all 4.0 litre cars up to VIN 194773 are AJ6 engines. All 4.0 cars after VIN 194774 are AJ16 engines. The changepoint is April 1994. I have a 1994 AJ16 car built in July 1994.
