Production Numbers
Trying to understand production numbers for the Sovereign 4.0 SWB - I find the Wiki page information hard to believe!
Wiki says 28,490 compared to 3.2 at 17,346, 3.2 Sport at 7,165. Nearly a third of total production is Sovereign 4.0?
If we look around today we would expect to see more Sovereign 4.0 around - but this is not the case IMHO. I see plenty of 3.2 and 3.2 Sport though.

Perhaps because virtually all SWB 6's sold in North America were the 4.0 Sovereign? Eg. the Canadian-spec 4.0 1995 X300 I had was badged "XJ6" but called a Sovereign on its registration document and indeed was spec'ed as a Sovereign (leather, sunroof etc etc). We also were offered the "XJ6L" (LWB 4.0), "Van den Plas" (LWB 4.0), XJ12, XJ12L and a few smaller-run editions, but never the 3.2.
Those numbers match the table in Nigel Thorley's Jaguar - All the Cars and he's a reliable source.
I agree with Greg that the North American market will have taken a large proportion of the 28,490 which explains why they aren't so plentiful in the UK.
