1993 xjs radio stopped working Help
I have a factory installed radio with a remote CD player in the trunk. I've been trying to solve an idle problem and installed a new crank sensor. I disconnected the battery to give the computer a chance to reset the crank sensor and now my radio does not work.
I've done a battery reset many times on this jaguar and this has never happened. It is not the code, as I have the code. The radio is not getting any power. The little security light that always flashed that's on the radio, does not light up and there is no message in the window of the radio to install a code.
I've checked all the related fuses to the radio that are located in the drivers side wheel well and they all check good for power. I tried to reboot the radio by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it, but still no power. Even the power antenna does not rise up of even move.
Are there other fuses I missed, is there a inline fuse, is there some kind of restart, other then pushing the button to turn it on. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
On a happier note, my idle seems to be a little better and maybe with some more driving, it might smooth out totally.

There should be a direct live feed from the positive battery terminal that keeps the station memory when you switch off; it's possible that you have accidentally disconnected this but I don't know if that would have the effect of shutting the whole thing down. Might be worth a look.
Otherwise there should be a fuse at the back of the radio itself that may have blown.

I checked the wiring at the battery and it is good. I decided to pull the radio and check the power going into it, it is also good. So now I have the radio out and cannot find any fuses on the back of the radio. Is the fuse on the inside of the radio?. I will probably pull the top off the radio and check today. Thanks
Opened the radio and still didn't find a fuse. I feel the radio is trashed. I'm leaning towards buying an aftermarket AM/FM CD player and installing that. I checked Ebay for used OEM radios and think that maybe a new one would be the way to go. Used ones with no guarantee are over $100.
If you have power to the radio and it still doesn't work then it is either trashed as you say or you have no earth. As the radio is out it is quite simple to to touch the live and earth leads to the battery posts to see if it comes on; if it doesn't then it has gone Dodo style.
There are much better aftermarket ones out there but I tend to choose ones that don't light up like Shanghai at night when they are switched on and a rotary volume button is a must for me, can't be fiddle arsing about with all those tiny buttons.

Before I go into the radio plug, which wire has the constant 12 vts? Is it the white with the blue trace or the purple wire?

If somebody has the Jaguar radio schematic, and would post it, a lot of problems would be solved.
I cannot get either of two radios, in or out of the car, to hold the code. The radio acknowedges the code but when I turn it off with voltage applied to the purple, and white blue trase wires, the code is losI.
I do not need the code and would like to remove it or disable it. The code acts like the BIOS in a computer which can be reprogramed. Without a scemeatic it s almost impossible to delete the code or reprogram the radio!

Many thanks for the schematic, I have that and that's where I got the connection info. The schematic I need is of the actual radio so I can trace the code circuit, or the name of the radio manufacturer (not Jaguar).
I also need the radio internal circuits schematic. The radios were manufactured by Alpine and they tell me the archives do not have anything for our models. Hopefully someone out there is an old Alpine tech and kept the manuals from Alpine.
Thanks in advance

Purple is power, white with blue trace is always on to hold code, red and white dial illumination, green and yellow antenna power. Four wires on each end of plug are speaker wires. Test speaker 1 1/2 volt battery across the positive and negative wire to speaker; good speaker hear a thud. Fix speaker cone use model airplane cement. To check voltage in a wire use a needle to penetrate the wire shield
No need to penetrate the wire coating. Just use a pointy probe to touch the contact in the plug that the corresponding wire attaches to. The alligator clip from the probe clips to any ground in the car. The plug pops off easily with the pressing of the lock button on top.
