1994 Jaguar XJS 4.0 Sputtering
Sounds like fuel starvation. But before digging too deep, check the inside of your distributor cap for any arcing or cross firing. Also check the temp sensor which send info to the ECU. You may actually be getting too much fuel through wrong engine temp info. Then if nothing there, I hate to say you might be in for a fuel pump. If you can bypass everything and try to power the pump by itself just to see if the pump can run Also, did you say you drained the gas? You might have old water that's trying to get through.
Yes, I cleared out all the old gas. It finally started up and ran fine for a min and then when I started revving it up, it started to bog down shortly after. Almost as if it floods or isn't getting enough gas. I will double check the Dist Cap but it looked brand new and the button did as well. I need to check the fuel pressure as well to see what I can uncover. Any other thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks,
Paul

So I put a new temperature sensor on it and heres what happened. It sputtered at first and then started revving high around 2000rpm and then leveled out to about 1000rpm but still had the same issue. As soon as I gave it gas it would bog down again and again. Thoughts?
Until we know what the fuel pressure is at different throttle positions, it's all guesswork. Guessing on a Jaguar can become very expensive very fast.
You must disconnect the fuel line coming to the fuel rail and insert a 'T' fitting with a fuel pressure gauge.

Guessing is not ideal but I thought I would start with the basics since these things are easy to do. Plugs, wires, dist cap, button, fuel filter. I bought a fuel pressure gauge today so I will test that in the morning. If the pressure is good, what could it then be?
So you haven't cleaned the throttle body yet? It's a usual point where fuel gums up the butterfly and doesn't close, or move properly, allowing too much air in to the engine. Again, a quick and cheap attempt.
You could clean out the MAF...again, a quick and... well, you get it.
