Default 1994 XJS rear brake caliper seals

I have a 1994 XJS 4.0 (vin 193380) with the outboard rear brakes. I am in the process of re-building the rear calipers, Had a total brake failure due to a seized piston in the front brakes, after rebuilding the fronts I figured it was prudent to re-build the rears as well. From my parts book the replacement seals kit from my VIN is JLM11331 (188105-198334) I purchased this and the seals are way too large.

Does anyone know the correct part number for this car?

Stuart,

I'm surprised that the seals are wrong if you've got brake calipers that haven't previously been updated. That part number should be correct. Did you buy the parts from Jaguar (Classic Parts)? If so, give a call direct to Glen Parkes as he will want to understand the problem.

Good luck

Paul

I purchased the seals from a vendor on E-bay, They were a new sealed jaguar branded part.

Stuart,

A previous owner hasn't converted the discs to vented ones, have they? I only ask because the later vented discs bolt straight on but use a different caliper with different seals.

I wondered about that as well but there has been no change - the disks are non vented.

digging around on the web I see JLM2200 listed by some sellers for a 93.5 to 95.5 XJS.

Stuart,

JLM2200 is the part number only for an early ABS-equipped XJ6 (XJ40).

When Jaguar put the outboard brakes on the XJS, they used the setup that was then fitted to the XJ40. So theoretically the brake seals are JLM1331 which was then fitted to the XJ40.

Although the discs and pads were the same as the ones from the earlier XJ40, Jaguar seemed to introduce a different part number for the caliper and seals for those later XJ40 and the early outboard XJS.

If there's any way that you could measure your original seals and the new ones plus a photo of them and one of the Jaguar bag and part number, I'll contact Jaguar Classic and see if I can get a definitive answer for you.

In the meantime, I'll check the original parts catalogue from 1994 to see if Jaguar have somehow got the part numbers wrong on their current system and website.

Cheers

Paul
