Default 1994 XJS rear shocks

Has anyone had luck finding 1994 XJS 2+2 cabriolet rear shock and spring assembly? Shocks are available but can’t seem to find anyone who sells the shock/spring assembly.

rwolak,

Since Jaguar stopped supplying the springs many years ago, it's been a real challenge to find quality springs in the aftermarket that can guarantee the correct ride height and quality. There are lots of threads on this topic so it's worth a search across the Forum.

On my 4 litre convertible, I have fitted adjustable platform height shocks to ensure correct ride height, a route that a number of owners have chosen.

Worth doing the investigation, or else you'll be disappointed if you get it wrong!

And remember when talking to the suppliers, state that you have a Convertible not a Cabriolet (the 3.6 Cabriolet has different spring part numbers to the 4.0 Convertible)

Good luck

Paul

Paul:

thanx for the reply.

I wasn’t aware of the cabriolet vs convertible difference.

You mentioned “adjustable platform shocks”. What brand did you use and how do you like them?

rwolak,

I use Gaz shocks with Eibach springs (they were derived from the Aston DB7 that uses the same rear end setup).

I initially fitted the Gaz shocks which have adjustable damping (a simple turn button adjustment that can be done in seconds without any tools. However, although I easily could get the ride to suit my preferences (slightly firm), I couldn't get the ride height perfect. Gaz then brought out an adjustable height model also with the variable damping. The adjustable spring height is achieved using a collar on the body of the shock which (using a large C-type wrench) enables the ride height to be set exactly where you want,

So I swapped out my original shocks and fitted the adjustable height ones. Once I'd set the height and damping to suit road use, I just adjust the damping for track days etc. I'm really happy with the purchase and can definitely recommend them.

I think there are some other Forum members that use the Gaz shocks. I also think that at least one other manufacturer makes an adjustable height shock, maybe Koni?

Cheers

Paul

AVO make adjustable platform shocks for the XJS. I have them and they are fine, no real differences from the GAZes I find.
