Default rear shocks 1996 4.0

A seller on Ebay seems to believe 1995 XJS 2+2 takes a different shock than a 1996. I thought they were the same. Thanks.

Same shock, the rears being about the only thing that is the same going back years. I recently got a full set of 4 for the rear that are German made Bilteins, same listings. I would stay away from KYB as in my experience they have harsh rebound valving making for a rough ride .

I installed 4 KYB shocks on the rear of my SIII XJ6 and a set of 20% stiffer lowering springs and I wish the setup was just a little bit stiffer.

fmracerbob, Seems these shocks aren't all alike. Venders on E-Bay often list rear shocks up to 1995 but say they aren't compatible for 1996. My Monroe shocks bear this out. They were listed as good for up to and including 1996 but didn't fit.

Default What about 95 ?

I'm not saying you are wrong but have you verified the ones you have will in fact fit on a 1995 or earlier ?

I find it hard to believe that Jaguar changed the rear suspension for the last year of production for a low volume model unless the 1995 and later XJ6 chassis used a different but completely interchangeable suspension which they used on the last few XJS's when they ran out of parts.

I am wondering if the Monroe shocks you got were wrong, it has happened to me, I had a hard time finding shocks to fit my 83 280zx and the listings were often wrong.

fmrracerbob,
The Monroe #39003 are listed on many sites as fitting the 1996 and earlier XJS. The boxes in which I received these shocks have 39003 printed on them. However they do not fit. I am having a problem with the seller, 'Just Suspension' in getting them to send me a return authorization number. I may have to go through the E-Bay process to get a return of funds.
I ordered a set of Boge that have the spring seats and trunions with them. The Monroe shocks do not have the trunons and that is the problem as my original trunions are to small in diameter to fit the new shock.
