Default 1995 Top Fluid

Is this the correct top fluid? The car is new to me and the top will only open half way. The rear windows are currently stuck down.

Thank you

Hi Detroit Bull

I use Royco 756 as the Correct Viscosity is important

But maybe its one of the Relays that's causing the problem

Add more. Leave the threaded cap off in the first couple of cycles and let the air bubz bleed out of the lines if there is any. Aim for the UPPER line on the reservoir... Aren't they marked?

I use transmission fluid in mine. Jus say'n.

Detroit Bull,

Can you give us a bit more info?

- What happens exactly? Does the top slow down and eventually stop in the halfway position? Or does it go normally to the halfway position and then stop?
- Does the top come back up normally?
- Does it always stop in the same position when you try and lower it?
- When you say the windows are stuck down? What does that mean? When you raise the top, do they come up? In case you don't know, there is an 8-second delay to raise the windows after the top is raised. You need to continue to press the switch.
- Are you doing all of this with the engine running? It eases the load on the hood pump.

Cheers

Paul

The correct fluid is 5606, either A or H spec. It's an aircraft hydraulic fluid that has a kinematic viscosity of 15. The Pentosin fluid has a viscosity of 19, and ATF is 37, so ATF is much thicker than the proper fluid. You can get the 5606 fluid reasonably cheaply at Aircraft Spruce.

What changed? What did you do?

The info (well, it satisfies me) is good for others that are having problems. It's the while point of a forum... Sharing information...

I added the new fluid and cycled the roof with the top off of the reservoir as the car ran.

I hope this helps.
