Default Convertible Top Fluid Sensor

Is there a sensor in the convertible top fluid reservoir to tell it when it is out of fluid? I have a leak and am going to refill it to find it, but the motor doesn't run at all at the moment (it used to intermittently work) and I am wondering if it can sense the fluid issue.

No fluid sensor. But I will tell you from experience....with the wrong fluid, i.e. power steering fluid, etc., the viscosity will cause so much draw of amps, that the windows won't work properly, nor will the top go all the way up or down before the time the control unit works will cause the top and or the windows to stop. The correct fluid is so incredibly thin that it seems to pour easier than water if that is possible. Once I flushed my system, put a new seal in the pump, refilled with proper fluid, my top and windows will go fully up, or fully down in 6 seconds flat.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to having it back working. For fluid I was going to go with Dexron III, is that not suitable? Did you get yours from Jaguar?

TweeTwee,

Don't use Dexron III. It's not at all the same. You need a fluid that is equivalent to Univis J13 Hydraulic Fluid. Equivalents are used in the aircraft industry.

Good luck

Paul

That's what I bought. Worked perfectly. I found a bottle of Lucas stop leak in the car when I bought it, along with power steering fluid bottles. I can only presume that is what my system was full of.
