1995 XJS 4.0 Brake Question
Hi all,, I am hoping someone can help me figure this one out.. I have 95 mid year XJS (Vin starting in 22XXXX) with the 4.0 with about 62,000 miles on it.. I have no brake fluid pressure on the left front.. I needed to replace the front rotors and bearings to pass inspection, so I swapped them out.. Prior to removing the calipers/pads, I opened the bleed screw on the caliper before pushing back the pistons.. After completion of the job, I Bleed the brakes using a miti-vac brake bleeder, rears were no problem, right front, no problem.. left front, no pressure at the caliper, So I worked back checking and had no pressure no pressure to the center from the valve body of the ABS system.. I have pressure everywhere else, from the master cylinder to the abs unit. of the 3 ports on the valve body, I have pressure front and rear, but not center (which happens to be the left side) I've searched the internet for hours hoping for a solution. I've seen many posts, threads on the earlier TEVES system with the accumulator, but This vehicle has the LATER Version (I believe TEVES MARK IV) with the vacuum system.. The Anti-Lock light comes on for about 3 seconds when the key is turned on, but I do not hear the pump.. my scan tool only goes back to 1996, so it's no help Any direction will be of great help..
I don't have an answer for you. But.....
Have you tried bleeding the system by pumping the brake pedal? Just for the heck of it?
I use the MityVac bleeder on many cars with generally good results but I don't think it will pull fluid thru a large air pocket. Maybe that isn't a correct explanation....but I will say that sometimes I come across a car where I have to resort to old fashioned brake pumping....pushing the fluid through..... rather than pulling fluid through.
<shrug>
Others will chime in with better info
Cheers

Thanks for the response, Yes, I did actually try the old fashioned (aka tried and true) method... Pump it up, hold it down..
I tried it with the engine off, ignition off- Engine off Ignition on- Engine on..
I even opened up the fitting at the block below the abs unit in all scenerios without any pressure either..
I've never had a vehicle I couldn't bleed before.. which is why I'm so stumped.. The ABS light would illuminate, but only occasionally and then would go out..
I read on the internet that if you have abs brakes to NOT just push back the fluid into the M/C so I opened the bleeders on the caliper first.. so I don't think it was contaminated fluid.. but I don't know..

So, I was able to borrow a scanner which does JAGUAR ABS, and came up with code C1095 ABS Hydraulic Pump Motor CircuitFailure...
so looks like I have to replace the module.. at least according to myairbag.com.. who offer's a rebuild svc for only $69.00
I'll let you know after I Update/replace module.

so, sent the module to BBA reman and got the same exact codes. still will not bleed to the left front caliper. any suggestions..
I seen the post regarding the 89 xjs ut I have the later system, not the earlier Teves MArk 3

Well, i was able to snag an entire pump/assembly module off ebay.. pressure is back, and the brakes are bled. however, still getting the C1095 code..
not sure why, however..

Yeah, just finished reading that thread, i have the older module/assembly at the house, i can check it out when i get home tonite.. but that still doesn't explain why i'm still getting the C1095 code..
