Mechanic says it's the rotary switch on the ZF 4HP transmission.
$1200. at Canadian Jaguar, cheaper on E bay. Has anyone taken one apart? Mechanic said it is probably burnt contacts and I have nothing to lose.

It's definitely worth just checking the wiring connection and wiggling the switch about. Every chance that it might cure it.

If you do need a new switch, it'll be only a few hundred dollars for a used working switch.
