Let me start off by saying…..I am not sure and do not want to offend anyone……..that it is okay to use this format to discuss the potential sale of my XJS.
As discussed in a previous thread I recently had a medical setback and will eventually have to sell the Jag.
My doc has told me that I should slow down and stop crawling over and under my jag or any vehicle.
I’ve looked at both the US and Overseas markets for xjs sales. The overseas market is much stronger in England, Germany and France. Additionally the Australian market is very good.
I would entertain selling it overseas to someone interested and either having some background on importing vehicles or association with someone who does (Broker).
I will sell the jag…..You or your appointee will have to do everything else
I have a price in mind that I want, which is fair.
I don’t care if you are interested in keeping it for yourself or selling it for much, much more than what I want.
There are brokers here in the states but then I would have to split what I want with the broker.
Investigate completely the cost of shipping and import duty. Yeh, I know importing an English car back into England?
Then realize that you’d be wise to use a shipping Broker. ( more cost) failure to fill out some form you don’t even know about or buy the right insurance etc.
Than the scam’s. Buyers not to be trusted. Stuff they just know from experience to watch out for.
I’m not saying that it can’t be done and you won’t wind up with more money then selling here in the States. It’s just not as simple as it would seem.
With a car younger than 30 years you pay a lot of duty and VAT if you want to import it to Europa; not to forget the nowadays very high shipping costs.
The market in Europa might be strong for collectable, rare and low mileage examples in a very good condition. But having in mind the costs mentioned above it makes no sense to import an "average" XJS.
I bought my XJS 1996 in the US(Florida) and shipped it to Europe (Netherlands) with a car handling/Import company with agents in the US. It should be an interesting XJS to ship to Europe and not too expensive. You're not going to get the top prize. What is important is the condition of the XJS and the Carfax report.
I have seen your XJS before….definitely a stunner!!, by any chance was it purchased out of Sarasota, Florida. An individual I know had an exact copy of yours.
If I might be so bold,
Approximately the cost you paid for the XJS, miles, when purchased (prices are moving up at a good rate),cost to ship……….and the big question now…….How much is it worth in today’s market overseas?
SBP
In the Uk there are loads of XJSs on sale, and prices are softening if anything. I really doubt a UK sale will be viable. Germany, maybe, but I have no experience of that market. In France, XJSs are few and far between and if for sale, sellers ask idiotic prices, but french buyers are extremely scarce.
This is a link to UK ebay. XJSs for sale. Some rubbish, some decent cars and a few idiotically overpriced ones that have been on sale for years. But it will give you an idea of what you are up against. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/29751/i.h...nkw=jaguar+xjs
Of all XJs celebrations for sale in Europe, more than 80% come from the US. and the asking price is on average around €25,000. These are bought in the US around €15,000. A white color is not that popular in Europe.
Mine is from Orlando, purchased for $10500 in late 2017 (107,000 miles) when prices were at their lowest. The insurance value here in the Netherlands is €30,000.
OK if you are correct about the European market and assuming he’s willing to sell it for €15,000 is there enough in that €10,000 to cover shipping, Import duty, exchange rates, fees, etc?
I suppose I should check today’s exchange rate and recent fluctuations , to see what he might actually net.
Certainly, in 2017/'18 I had €6000 in costs for imports, taxes, transport, insurance, etc. Now everything has become a bit more expensive, so it will be around €10,000
Are you saying yours is average and would only command ~25,000 Euros because it looks great.
Mguar
I am not asking 15,000 euros which is around 18,000 US dollars, I think $15,000 is a fair price negotiable considering the Great shape this XJS is in.
General discussion
I think 10,000euros might be a bit high??? for total cost to ship depends on a number of factors.
how shipped (open/closed container), ins. Value, port of destination, broker (yes/no) etc
according to Greg ……..France, germany may be the markets to review….( sold my 89, 560 SL TO A PERSON IN GERMANY/Broker involved) in show room condition w/250K miles
Really appreciate all the discussion surrounding this Thread…….
Mine should cost about 30,000 euros now. I paid 16,000 euros for it, including all costs, taxes, insurance, import duties and shipping by land and sea.
Shipping is not that expensive (€1500) but taxes and import duties are.
But not in Europe. Maybe to do with less sunshine.
Hi Keesh
I'm sure you're right. That's why we call Florida the "sunshine state". LOL If you travel the state, especially the southern half, you can't help notice all the white vehicles of every kind.
By the way, the OP's white with red top and side badges looks really good. What mileage does it show ?
