1996 obd2 experience/coolant temp
Good afternoon,
Just received one of those ELM327 Wifi interface gadgets bought off of ebay. Downloaded cardoctor on my IPhone (free). Just got in from playing with it for a few minutes. Wanted to get some idea of the calibration of the temp gauge. Worked perfectly (I think). bottom end of "normal arc" showed about 155 F. Middle of "N" was 185 F. Needle aligned with right leg of "N" was 187 F. Temp seemed to rise to 185 and then settle out; apparently the working temp of the thermostat. Now, wonder just how accurate the sender is? Anyone know?
The application gives a number of parameters; air flow, engine load, RPM, O2 sensor voltages, inlet air temp, coolant temp, etc. I had also hoped it would read oil pressure and voltage but don't think it does. Anyone have experience with other apps?
Bought the interface unit off of ebay for $15 with free shipping. There are dozens of the very same unit on sale at various prices from $8 (+shipping) to $23+ Paid a little more than the cheapest offering for mine to get the unit delivered in a reasonable time.
Will get more experience over the next couple of days/weeks but thought my good experience though limited might be of use to someone thinking about such devices/applications. Would be interested in other folks' experience along this line.
