Default 1996 xjs 4.0 false overheat

from cold start up temp gauge goes all the way to H but you can put your hand on valve cover t/stat housing put temp gauge on t/stat hous it read150 deg has new sending unit for gauge system full has heat

There are two senders on the thermo housing, one has a single spade terminal this is the dash gauge sender, just make sure that it isn’t shorting out. The sensor with the two terminals is the one that is talking to the ECU.

Ideally if you could plug an OBD2 reader in and see what the ECU is seeing I bet you’d get a confirmation that the sender is bad, not the sensor.

inj sensor is fine the temp gauge were a prob when they were new at dealer so replaced it unpluged C reading grounded past H starting to think dash unit only cause turn key off then on and it drops to a different reading

had the same issue on my 94 6.0. Ran an extra ground from the flexible circuit board and the problem was solved.
