Default 1996 xjs O2 sensor or not

TOO ALL

What I am about to ask may offend some of you, but I am curious!!

Does anyone have any experience with universal sensors and if so, can it be fitted to the the 96 xjs. Has anyone actually installed one or more on their vehicle?

I am aware that a universal sensor can come in a number of wire configurations (1,2,3,4,) and that the connector will have to be added to connect up with it’s mating part.

As always thanks for your input.

Paul,

Just out of interest, why are you considering that? Is it cost? I've always been able to source OEM NTK titania sensors for the AJ16 at what I think are pretty good prices.

ptjs1,

Thank You for the response.

From what I have seen over the years on this site, YOU ARE EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE so I appreciate your response and am guessing you may know of possible solutions.

BUT

YES, the price. I hate getting ripped off because it says jaguar!

AND, I am always looking for alternative solutions.

Anything more than $30-40 dollars US is too much.

So, with me bearing my soul, do you know of anyway around my situation and not have to sell one of my kidney’s.

At my stage in life I just want to be able to drive this thing of beauty.

As always thanks for your input.

You’ll need a TITANIA sensor with FOUR wires.

Let us know how it goes.

Ground, Signal, Heater, Heater

Those are your four wires.

Titania is a type of oxygen sensor. It works differently than the more common zirconia type.

Paul,

Tks, but I still worship at the altar of the really knowledgeable guys on here!

Most references that I see to "universal sensors" seem to be the zirconia type. The AJ16 engine needs the Titania type as mentioned. And inevitably they tend to be more expensive. If you're looking for the upstream one (I guess you are?) these guys have always been very good value. And last time I got an OE NTK one in the box. The price isn't too bad but not quite in your 30-40 range. I may be wrong but I think you'll struggle to get a titania at that sort of money that you want to pay.

Thanks for the responses. Your input will be utilized when and if necessary.

BUT

I am still interested to know if anyone has experience with the universal O2…..hopefully Titania and installed on their 95 or 96 xjs. I think some may also fit the xj6, xjs Vanden plas possible others.

Thanks

To All,

Having a difficult time locating a couple of these sensors in the states. Nobody seems to have stock and don’t know when this part might be available.

if anyone has ordered this sensor recently, let me know where it was purchased.

I did contact a possible source (thanks ptjs1) I will hopefully get a response. A couple of the other English sources do not ship to the states.

thanks

Have you found generic Titania sensors in Europe, or Bosch/NTK, etc

I was wondering whether you were able to find sensors for less than $70/each.

Paul,

Shame that Gendan won't ship to you.

Your $160 for a pair sounds cheap, Most places don't seem to have the titania one for the XJS available. And the genuine one from Jaguar is $830 each today!

The for 2 pcs. Was $160 with free shipping.

close to the same price from English supplier, gendan ($58 pounds) with the current exchange rate not including shipping costs if they did ship to USA.
