Default 5.3L Bolt Grades

Hello Gents,

I'm rebuilding a 5.3L V12 and I'm wanting to replace a number of bolts that have seen better days but I'm not sure with what grade of bolt I should replacement with whether or not they're SAE or metric? Is there a guide that I have may missed related to this either on this forum or beyond?

Much appreciated.

Depending on the year, they used both SAE and/or metric. You can usually tell SAE vs metric by the marking on the bolts, as well as the grade. You really need to check each fastener in your particular engine. Most SAE bolts are Grade 5, except in high stress areas, and most metrics are 8.8, with 10.8 used occasionally. They also use both fine and course threads, so a thread pitch gauge is essential.
I'm in the US, so I get most fasteners from McMaster-Carr, once I determine the correct size. A lot faster than Jag specialists, and cheaper too.

Having a set of nuts, each of which is a known thread and size, is an easy and reliable way of confirmng thread sizes.
