5-speed XJS. Buy this before I do, please
Not a full-on basket case but probably too far gone to make it a sensible project, dollar wise. I'm tempted to jump on this for the engine, trans, pedal box, etc. Might be good as a donor car for someone owning an XJS with a dead engine.

Has Euro spec bumpers so I suspect it was a grey-market import
The sitution with the tile sounds iffy, doubly so if there's VIN confusion regarding the grey market status. As far as I know the DOT assigns a new VIN in such cases. Might get tricky.
Still, I'd hate to see it go to the crusher
Cheers

With a speedo in KM it's obviously a European import. The ad says 141,000 miles, but it's really km, or about 87,000 miles. As far as I know the 3.6 never came the North America in the XJS ( it did in the XJ40).
It's a cabrolet, so an interesting car.

As the tachometer has KPH and MPH it can't be a European model. European cars only have KPH. The only cars with both in Europe are British cars, which have MPH and KPH. MPH being the bigger numbers...

I concur as this is the first 3.6L S I have seen here. Who would send this to the junkyard? If it were closer I would buy it.
Actually Jaguar DID import some 3.6 5-speeds as "market test cars", in 1985. The usual number bandied about is 50 cars. These were fully DOT;s and EPA'd cars; full "USA specification".
Apparently they failed the test

Great find. This one looks like it could be saved.
There was one near me here in Brooklyn for sale awhile back. I considered it but it was too far gone. The speed demon in me wasn't too excticed about the 3.6 lugging around a heavy car. My understanding is clutch parts are hard to find and those 80's getrags dont have great shift quality. At 141k this likely need lots of hard to find parts but for that price, it's worth the experience and giving it a try for a car guy.

I thought Canadians came with both too.
If I were near, I would buy it just for the parts.
As you say Doug, seems a waste and that differential will wake up a V12 big time.
Just completed my diff swap and I couldn't be happier. It has completely changed the car and I would buy that 3.6 to have a spare 3.54 on the shelf.
The 3.54 XJS LSD diffs are rare.

Im 1hr 45mins from there, at my driving speeds, and was actually going down to Bellingham to buy another V12 XJS. The prices are comparable but this one looks ratty on the outside...lotta catchup work.
