Default 89 Marelli no start, no spark

Hello again, got the brakes working but now it shut off and will not start again. It has no spark but power at coils and injectors. This happened while idling last fall so i just put it away for the winter (I don't my classics in the Boston winters; road salt!!!!). Any way pulled it out in the spring, still no spark. removed the cap and rotor all looked good. Ohmed the cap and rotor good, tested for power at coils, good. went to test for injector pulse and the car fired right up? Been running all summer but i have not driven it due to brake issues. Thank for the help there. Drove the car locally this weekend, no problem. Pulled it out of the garage this morning to work on some other minor issues and once again it shut off while idling? Once again, no spark, no injector pulse but power to the coils and injectors. My gut tells me crank sensor(s) but i have little experience with the Marelli system and shop manuals I ordered for my 89 are for the earlier ignition system and of little use. Thoughts and sugestions would be appreciated. Mark.

If it shuts off while idling, then it sounds like a sensor. The front and rear sensors are both the same and are readily available. Are they the original ones? If yes, replace them. I cam't remember them being expensive...

Are the sensors for each bank? If so is it likely they would both fail at once or do they not run on just 1 sensor for one bank?

No the sensors are for the full system. Iirc the front one was for the initial timing, the rear one for the TDC signal.

Took the connector apart for the crank sensor up front and sure enough the terminals looked corroded. Some electrical connector cleaner and a point file later plugges it in and she fired right up. You guys are the best.

Get yourself a new cap from SNG. The nonlabeled ones are of a very cheap quality.

Thanks for your reply my after market distributor is labelled in the same order as the original marelli one..
Where would you put 1A lead to on this cap as the firing order is 1A,6B,5A,2B,3A,4B,6A,1B,2A,5B,4A,3B
The order on the cap is different.

The Order is different because it is leveled. Follow the numbers on the cap. That is the correct way. Not kidding.

Did you put the coils on the correct plugs? The cables for those are easily done wrong... I have managed it myself.

The diagram you are posting is not for the Marelli system. That is the earlier system. Make sure the upper coil is going to the "B" coil post on the dist cap.

Exactly. Twoi different ignition systems. They are both TOTALLY different. Kind of like V6 and I6 engines

Good reminder to check and clean connections before replacing parts

Cheers
