'89 VIN cutoff for change in rear main seal?

Default '89 VIN cutoff for change in rear main seal?
Considering buying a '89 convertible and wondering if you can determine the type (Rope vs. Lip... 39 hours vs. 10 hours of labor) of rear main seal by the VIN. If not, where would I find the engine # ?
