89 XJS Auxillary fan not working
The auxillary fan is not working, it has never come on since i owned the car. Which wires can i use to test the fan itself to make sure it actually does work? Can not seem to find a wiring diagram. I did find a blown fuse in the #5 spot in the white fuse box B under the hood yesterday. I replaced it, but i have not driven it enough to see if it will come on when warm. If i could id like to hook it up to a manual switch if possible for a temporary fix.

The aux fan should come on with the A/C on.
Not sure on the '89, but, before the twin thermo fan fitment, my '85 had a fuse in a white plastic holder just above the fan mount on the top radiator panel, which could be blown.
Put your hand on the fan blade (ENGINE/IGNITION OFF OF COURSE), and see if the fan actually spins, as these motors are known to sieze solid.
If it spins, maybe OK, just join the 2 wires at the thermo switch in the housing at the bottom hose attachment to the water pump (a bit fiddly, access is tight), and turn ON the ignition, if it works, your sweet, if not, ask here with that info, and more diagnosis will be forthcoming.
Without A/C it is an "overtemp" fan, so just driving it around should NOT bring it on.

I have an '89 in my garage right now for a slew of repairs, inlcuding the cooling fan.
Actually, it is not wired in with the a/c compressor circuit. I knew there was a change and '89 must've been the breakpoint. My '88 XJS was arranged to operate the fan with the a/c compressor.
Cheers

Well, im coming off a 12 hour night shift got another one tonight. So i have not been able to play with wires yet. However i can add. the fan spins freely by hand. Also the AC has never worked either, I thought at first it may needed to be recharged. But, now i noticed once i set the climate control to 65 and turned the fan on normal, then rechecked the #5 fuse it was blown agian. So im going to try and see if the fan works regardless of the AC, as the temp needle will go slightly above the N after a while of driven. Im more concerned about getting the fan workin than AC right now.
