Question 89 XJS V12 5.3 HE Restortion Location Advice (Odd Question)

Bit of a wierd one (and not neccessarily XJS specific) so I apologise.

I have recently taken delivery of my very own V12 XJS, long story short its a complete rotbox but with a beautiful engine but its has been stood for about 10 years and some preventative maintanance is needed to avoid paying ££££ later on. Attached to the post is a picture of where the car is located, a car park behind where my flat block is. I plan on taking the engine down the cams and so want to put it in one of the garages behind the car you can see in the photo to make sure no debris falls in the engine. Here's the issue, there is a leak in the coolant system, it holds coolant whilst running for about 30 mins before being completely dry, which it is at the moment (it all needs replacing anyway). Would you adivse filling the car with coolant and then driving it into the garage (only to then drain it all again to swap out the coolant hoses) or do I put it in neutral, take the handbrake off, and find a dozen of my mates to help me push this 1800 kg behemoth into the garage.

I cannot put it on jacks and roll it as the car park is gravel. Either fill with coolant and drain afterwards or push it, any suggestions.

If I go with driving it, when I drain the coolant again is there someway to clean it as it would be good to reuse but the system will be filled with debris after sitting for 10+ years so when I drain the coolant again it'll be filthy.

Here is where the car is parked and it needs to go in one of the garages behind it.

Thank you

Jagman24,

I really don't like starting cars up and not fully warming them. Not good for exhausts etc I'd get some help and push it dry into the garage. I find that my XJSs roll relatively easily. Maybe pump the tyres up quite high to help the process?

Thanks paul I appreciate the response I'll take your advice. Forgoive me if I'm being a muppet but what do you mean by 'I really don't like starting cars up and not fully warming them', do you mean letting the engine run to get up to temperature before driving?

No, I don't see any reason not to drive the car from cold, although I wouldn't push it hard or rev it high until it's warmed up.

Good luck with the refurb. I'm about to do a refurb of my cam covers, injectors, injector harness, engine V clean-up and water hose replacement on my own V12.
