Default 93 JXS 5 speed Which GETRAG model?

Hey everyone. I have a 93 Jaguar XJS with the 5 speed manual transmission and need to have the clutch replaced. My mechanic is having a hard time finding parts. Does anyone know the GETRAG model? This might help me find parts. Or if you have any recommendations on places to look that would be helpful too. Thanks in advance for your help!

NateStL,

That's a 4 litre you've got, so it's a Getrag 290.

I stand to be corrected but I thought the 290 was used behind the AJ16 engines. The AJ6 engine, which Nate would have, used the 265

Doug,

The 290 was fitted from the intro of the facelift and the increase in engine size of the AJ6 from 3.6 to 4 litres. Apparently it was because the torque of the 4 litre had increased to 285lb/ft. You can tell it's a 290 in the 4.0 AJ6 because it has the 3-plane selector with Reverse under 5th. This was the same changepoint when the ZF 4HP 24E was also introduced.

Cheers

Paul

you can send your old clutch to Fort Wayne Brake and Clutch and they can rebuild it to new specs
