Default '94 4.0 transmission limp home mode

My '94 4.0 XJS has gone into limp home mode. I have not been able to determine how to read the transmission fault codes. I've disconnected the battery hoping to reset the faults but no luck. The transmission warning light stays in when the car is started and the transmission is in limp home mode.

How do I read the fault codes? Any suggestions for a fix will be very much appreciated.

If you had a trip computer, it would probably show up there. That's basically $250 for a working code scanner. I'd hop on that.

Not sure there's another way. Perhaps an OBD1 scanner? Do you have a plug under your drivers dash?

If not, you'll probably have to take it to a shop that can read Jag codes.

I'd go with the trip computer. Check eBay. DAC7362

I have a trip computer but I believe it only displays engine fault codes. I need to read transmission fault codes. The car does not have an OBD connection. The Jaguar unique JDC connection is there but dealers have long discarded the old JDC reader. Besides, the nearest dealer is over 200 miles away. I've heard some reference to a method that causes the transmission warning light to blink the code numbers. I need to know how to do that and then how to interpret the code numbers.

Maybe I CAN help you after all! I came across this page a long time ago. It didn't solve my problems, but it may serve you well. Please let me know if this make sense for your model year.

I'd leaf through the Ford transmission section. You'll have to page through the links to see if there's something familiar there.
