95 XJS engine light flickering

Default 95 XJS engine light flickering

I have a 95XJS the engine light is flickering not flashing as you step on the gas it increases brightness, everything has been replaced, coils sparkplug and all the sensors. it's not water on the ECU. The car runs very well and pass a smog and has no codes. any thoughts.

I had a similar issue with my 95. In my case, I would be in the middle of driving and suddenly all the lights would come on as they do when you turn on the car and warning chimes would start sounding as well. The car would never die, nor would anything happen mechanically.


I looked at the wiring diagram, and the problem would be the ignition switch, the multi function unit, or the wiring in between (the wiring in between would be the hardest to trace). I unplugged the ignition switch, cleaned the connector, removed the multi function and cleaned its connector and no more issues for about 2 more years (knock on wood).

A couple of other things you might want to look at are the connections behind your cluster, the grounds to your cluster, the alternator and battery. All of these things can cause what you describe

Yes I did that bulkhead power and all grounds+ speedometer cluster contacts Thank you
