Abs mil lamp always on... sigh!
Hi guys!
I`m in trouble with abs.
The abs mil lamp is still Illuminated after ignition switch on without abs codes displayed.. and it stays on... with running engine too!
I renewed pads and overhaul caliper, front and rear and the system was properly flushed.
The kitty brakes, the abs pump properly charges the accumulator ball and the ball itself is new... however the lamp is always there!
Grrrrr... what's the matter?
Thanks!

If it has ABS, it has wheel sensors. Pull them out one at a time, and check them really good for the collection of debris. These things aren't sensors, they are small magnetos. They send an AC signal to the ABS control unit. As a matter of fact, there is a way to use a jumper wire, and do a diagnostic on the ABS system, that just "might" tell you exactly what it is. Another thing that will cause this, is the pressure switch on the side of where the accumulator ball is. Known to go bad. They shut the light off, once the accumulator reaches a specific pressure.

this can only be done by driving the car at a speed of over 15mph ,
just letting it tick over on the drive is not enough to turn off the mil light for the ABS
just a thought,,,

I had a problem with my '96 XJS when I got it, the ABS light stayed on. I took out the the front wheel sensor and cleaned it ( undid bottom of shock to access it and bent
an 8MM ? wrench in Z pattern to undo) Someone had replaced rotor or wheel bearing and had anti seized the armature (looks like a gear) that activates the sensor, I cleaned it through the inspection hole at back of brake. It did not go out but took a good 10 to 15 miles, then went out. The light came on again this spring, so I clean the other side, everything works great.
