Default AC Compressor for 95 6L v12 XJS - Question

I was hoping someone might be able to help me locate the right AC Compressor for my 95 6L v12 Coupe.

I have purchased the 2 compressors listed hear and neither fits right.

RockAuto Parts Catalog

Attached is a photo of the label on the remanufactured AC compressor. I can't make it head or tail of it and can't find the equivalent.

Can anyone help me find what I need.

Thanks in advance

The compressor for the 6.0 models use MHE7300BA

The compressor for the 4.0 is the same but the suffix is AA.

I redid my AC on the 4.0 and I found it very difficult to order parts correctly, making sure to contact people to check dimensions and such. For some reason finding a condenser for the 6.0 was either easier or cheaper, or both. There were tons of places that were showing 4.0 condensers with dimensions for 6.0 models.

One technique to use is to look it up using your car as the model, then input the 4.0 engine and see if they are the same parts. If they're the same, they're probably wrong. If they're different, then you can start asking questions to make sure it's correct.

I googled the part number and it doesn't look like you're doing to get off easy

macudc,

As far as I know, the 95 XJS will have had the Sanden SD7H15 compressor fitted (if you were using R134 gas in the US then). If you were still using R12 gas, then it will have had the Sanden SD709 compressor fitted.

Hope that helps

Paul

The Sanden SD709 is used in the Four Seasons 78589.

Well I ordered the MHE7300BA and it does not fit. The bolts on that run front to back and the mounting bolts on my 95 v12 run across. :-(

Back to square one. I'll have to return this one also.

Should I be looking for the compressor by model year or year of manufacture. Its model year 95 but made in 94. Could that explain the trouble I'm having?

Any more ideas?

macudc,

As you probably know, there were 3 different compressors fitted to 6 litre models. If you've got a "USA 95MY" then your VIN will be higher than 190528 in which case the part number was CCC6592. This was eventually superseded into MHE7300BA. It may be that the the original CCC6592 had different mounting bolts. Did you ask Jaguar which model you should have and whether there was a difference in the superseded part no. or did you just buy the MHE7300BA? See here:

Compressor-6.0 Litre - Parts For XJS from (V)179737 to (V)226645 | Jaguar Classic Parts UK

Is your current compressor the original? I see that it appears to have a 2008 sticker on it?

Good luck with the issue.

Paul

The compressor currently in the car is a remanufactured Four Seasons unit. So probably not the original. The photo attached are the only model numbers I have to go on. I'm beginning to think that the MHE7300BA is the correct part but that the supplier sent me the wrong part in the box.

The Sanden 709 is a very common compressor so you shouldn't have problem getting one local. You may have to swap out the pulley though and if you dont have the tools it will be difficult.

That compressor seems newish...why do you think its bad? Judging from the condition of the belt it doesn't appear ceased. Take the belt and hoses off and turn the compressor by hand and see it you feel any suction. If you do it's most likely ok and another issues exists.

The compressor is newish. It was installed in 2009 but it is a reconditioned/refurbished unit.

No suction.

Not exactly but I think I have one on the way. I belive the part we are looking for is MHE7300BA It is a Sanden compressor with direct mount and clutch.

The following are NOT the correct parts, many parts suppliers have the compressors listing incorrectly for the later model v12s.

Rockauto list 2 compressors for a 95 v12 neither fits
This one is a nippondenso unit which has the correct direct mounts but the hose connections are on the side not the back (I think this is for the 6)
More Information for GPD 6511599

This one is a Sanden compressor with the hose connections in the correct place but the mounts run lengthways rather than direct mount (across). I think this is for older v12s.
More Information for FOUR SEASONS 78589

If money is not an issue the correct part is listed here
COMPRESSOR for 1996 Jaguar XJ12

or if you want a less expensive refurbished one here
Jaguar AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR REBUILT - MHE7300BA-REB

I have ordered one through buyautoparts.com who claim they are getting it direct from Sanden. The online photo looks all wrong but I have spoken directly to them and they swear (nay guarantee) it will be the right one or money back. I hope, so its getting hot!

Hope this helps and I will update this as soon as I receive the compressor.

Is it possible to switch the pulley but retain the new compressor and clutch?

The original view of the compressor Behr-Hella 8FK 351 126-061. this is XJ40 V12 = MMC7300AA
You need to put the old pulley clutch and an electromagnet.
