Default AC compressor compatibility?

Are the XJ6 compressors the same as the XJS, does it share the exact same one with anything??

I thought it was an "a6" but when i looked at remaned ones for different vehicles the mounting is different....Didnt notice til i looked but my car already had a remanned apco air on it.

I know nothing about ac but it won't take freon or oil, my dad said this means a bent reed valve.

Just trying to find the cheapest deal on another compressor.

thanks!

All A6s are *fundamentally* the same but there are detail differences.

Unless your car has been updated with a different compressor (some *have* been...using a Sanden or some such) it'll have the A6.

Pre-88 (apprx) XJSs used a "superheat" switch at the back of the compressor. All but the very latest Ser III XJ6s used this type.

Later cars, such as yours, used a "HSLP" (High side, low pressure" switch at the back of the compressor.

Both types are very common but you can't interchange the two (well, you can, if you swap compressor end plates...but you probably don't wanna get into that)

Some other A6s had no switch at all in the back of the compressor.

The mounting plates on the various A6 compressors should all be the same but some had metric threads, others SAE. No big deal.

There are also a couple different pulley diameters. I can't remember if the Jags use the larger or smaller.

Cheers

I come up with Delco #15-21684 "Compressor, A6, pressure switch type"

Your local parts store might be able to cross that number into somethinbg less expensive than AC Delco

I realize you're looking for cheap, but there is also a (very) not cheap alternative:
Jaguar XKE, Mark II, 3.4, 3.8 S, 72-89 Porsche Air Conditioning (scroll to bottom)

Not cheap, but built to last and very efficient. Their shop is close to me so I'm going to have them redo my A/C completely (almost new everything, except the evaporator I think).

And are you going to refill it with R12? That stuff is expensive!
