Default Aftermarket Hotrod A/C retrofit for XJS shooting brake

Need to consult the experts. So here's my situation:
-My 89 XJS Shooting Brake definitely needs an A/C compressor and likely a condenser. And because I'm a perfectionist, I will want new A/C lines.
-I am also definitely not grooving on the factory automatic climate control system- I don't like the complexity and have no idea if my system even works.
-PLUS, I am going to modify my dash to accommodate a double DIN radio/navigation which means possibly moving the stock A/C controls.

So, with all this in mind, what do you guys think of me buying an aftermarket A/C complete kit that they sell for hotrods and tearing out stock system for this? All new parts and simple controls. Am I deluding myself??

Any other ideas/insights?

My opinion: the basic mechanicals of the stock system are fine, it's just the control system that can sometimes be finicky.
It's a shame a simplified control system can't be implemented into the XJS, perhaps do away with climate control, have an on/off compressor switch and simple cable control for air direction and temperature?
Having said that, there's a mountain of room where the stock system sits in the dash, aftermarket should be able to fit easily.
