Default Aftermarket Rear Calipers

I have to replace the rear calipers on the back of my 90 XJs. I’d prefer not to rebuild them, so I’ve been searching for rebuilt calipers but I can only find the left side. There are a few brands of new calipers out there ranging from about $50-$75 per side. Nice part is they do not have core charges, but I’m curious if anyone has any experience or feedback on the quality?
thanks

Hi stone

I got some Brand New (no core charges) Calipers from Parts in Motion on ebay, that were made by Apec and were excellent quality and even came with New Bleed Nipples and Brake Grease

For just a little bit more than a Rebuild Kit and also a heck of a lot cheaper than doing what I used to do and sending them away to be rebuilt, also the same for New Brake Pads, that as I remember were Borg and Beck (much cheaper than anywhere else)

But if you need New Rotors then get them from a well known firm on this Forum 'British Parts' and if you need a New Battery on a recommendation from Paul (ptjs) I now get my Batteries from 'Tanya' who seem to have cornered the Market and can deliver next day in the UK

If you order from Parts in Motion they will want your 'Vin Number' Number Plate and Year of Manufacture not sure if they Ship World Wide but you can always ask them

And don't forget you can always sell your old Calipers on ebay, as some still like to rebuild them

Thanks for the feedback. I ended up ordering "Auto Part Premium" brand aftermarket calipers. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing most or all of the aftermarket calipers are made by the same company. The stock photos all look the same. I'll report back on quality. One side was $45 and the other $72 for some reason, so not a bad deal if they last and perform well.

Why do you think the aftermarket rotors should be avoided? I'm not dropping the IRS, just doing the calipers and pads because the rotors are still in good shape and I want to start driving again, but eventually I will drop it during the winter months when its off the road.

Hi Stone

I've always used Aftermarket Rotors that I've got from British Parts, I don't remember saying that After Market Rotors should be avoided

All aftermarket calipers are actually OEM Girling calipers rebuilt. No aftermarket company is going to cast calipers!

Aftermarket discs (rotors) are fine from any decent well known maker.

I picked up a set of rear callipers from SNG Barratt a while ago which are 'Budweg' branded.
They do appear subtly different to the original Girling ones on the car - for example the big 'G' in the casting on the outside face where the piston is doesn't exist on the Budweg calipers, some of the other parts/machined faces of the calliper are subtly different etc. Maybe this is something Jaguar themselves changed for certain years, not sure.

I do wonder where they get them to refurb though, when there is no 'core' charge?

They look to be new and not a rebuild, but then again they may just do a really good job rebuilding them
