I see a notice inside the lid on the armrest that the airbags are supposed to be replaced after 15 years. Is that something anyone does?? Would be costly.

Certainly not planning on doing mine. The only ones I see for sale are used, so are probably over 15 years old anyway, and if new ones are available they'll be very expensive. After doing the wood trim on my dash, I'm certainly in no hurry to try and replace the passenger side one......

 

I can tell you this. The manufacturer I work for used to specify 12 years to replace Airbags then we went to 15 years and about 5 years ago we issue a communication to the dealers stating that it is not necessary to replace airbags if there are no faults in the system. At the time airbags were starting to be installed in vehicles it was not known how long the propellant for the airbag ignitor would last. Now there has been airbags in service for many years and we know that they will last just fine. So enjoy your car.

 

Good news, Greg. If only our 'keepers' in government don't decide to mandate that we replace them.
