For background, this is a new to me 1989 XJS V 12 that is currently non-operational. I am starting a full restoration.
As a part of getting going with the restoration, I am trying to clean up the wiring under the dash on my way to checking out the AC system. I know the car has an alarm system that I plan on removing. I found these boxes when I removed the cover under the steering wheel area on a left hand drive car. Are either of these original parts that I need to keep? If so, what are they?
Thanks!
Check the patent numbers on the black box online. It looks as though it could be an RF remote lock/unlock box. It appears to have a black antenna coming out of it. The clear box, I have no idea.
Yeah, that looks like an aftermarket alarm system...
For the factory, or what's left of it, if it's a convertible you might find it behind the drivers seat, you'd need to remove the decorative cover on the pillar behind the drivers seat, get a vantage point and look under the back cabinet... It's where I found mine. I simply unplugged it and it had no ill effect. Don't know why it didn't or if it will be the same with yours, just go carefully if you do go digging for it...
It’s a coupe- but knowing that these are not factory parts is helpful. I’ll proceed with the removal. I just have to be careful- not sure how it might be set up to disable the car. Kind of like a puzzle
Figured it out. Found all the connections and relay and spliced the ignition wire that was routed through the alarm system. So one left thing I have to worry about.
