So I think my idle air valve on my 93 xjs is bad, and looking online I see that people suggest using a Lucas one, but I also see they are $200 each. I know there is a "alternate parts" listing for older v12s, but I haven't seen alternative parts listings for six's or facelifts. I did see one for $13, but it had bad reviews. There are several that I saw that looked exactly like them, but hard to tell from the pictures.

So, I'm assuming you have a 6-cylinder car, yes?
Google "DBC5727 Jaguar". There are a few out there including a couple new ones
Not aware of an 'alternate', personally, but i'm not versed on much 6-cylinder stuff
Cheers

Before you buy a new one, take the old one out and test it with boiling water.
I wish I had of done that as I ended up buying anothre one for nothing

Yes. Use a heat gun or fill a cup with boiling water and dip the copper bulb into the water and you should see a valve slowly shut from the side inlet.Originally Posted by Timeisrelative

When it cools back down it should re-open.

I believe the idle valve on the 6 cylinder models is a stepper motor controlled by the ECU. Putting that in hot water will for sure not do anything good. For the V12 the recipe is correct though...
I took mine on the XJ40 apart a long time ago, cleaned the internals, greased it up and it has worked ever since.
