Nice work. I had baptism of fire too, but mine was the IRS.

Cat that is a good looking engine. The before and after pictures are amazing. Nice work. Not to take away from it, but I can't help noticing the upper coil connection. I have an 89 with the same coils and purchased replacement connectors with a pigtail. Below is a link. It came from repairconnector.com, part number 5628C.

I'm having trouble getting my 89 Marelli running and will post something soon. Maybe you can help. The car didn't burn, but did have a valley harness meltdown.

Again nice rebuild!

Try this link. His name is Andy Harvey. He deals only in XJS Jaguars. He is in England. He bailed me out last year buy finding a rear window glass with the correct seal for my 93 coupe.

Good job, that looks beautiful!

One question: I see you capped off the crossover pipe tubes that connect the two intake manifolds. Does doing so affect anything?

Thanks,
Paul

You must be talking about the silicon on the connector LOL?

In the few Marelli harnesses that I looked at I noticed that the insulation started to bake and peel right where they were terminated to the connector, putting the silicon on both sides of the connector where the terminations are will prevent this from happening. But yeah, my locking clips aren't the best so I will use your link to get some to change out.

And I would be more then happy to help you out the best I can when it comes time to troubleshoot yours. I came into the Jaguar project never having seen one in my life, I now know the thing pretty intimately.

I believe that is the Crankcase ventilation system. I will be putting that back in place soon. It is definitely necessary.

What isn't necessary is the entire air pump/smog system. The tubes were removed and solid dowels 3/4 inches long were cut and plug welded into the tube holes, then finished off with O-rings.

I will try to post (later tonight) a picture of my solution for the smog pump itself. I wanted to keep my AC, so I devised a pretty simple way to do that.

Curious... Which ignition wire brand did you go with?

I went with the Powermax wires. They were a nice fit, just need to situate them a little bit.

Easy solution. This bolts on in place of the pump.

I have had bad luck with my eldorado's smog pump. Last winter, when it was maybe five degrees below zero outside, one of the fiber impellers decided to fall apart inside the housing. The pieces got wedged between the other blades and the whole thing seized up and destroyed my serpentine belt. I had to make poorer version of your pulley solution just to limp the car home. Now I look at those pumps as enemies.

There are a lot of creative ways to replace the pump. The hardest part is probably finding the right pulley with sealed rollers in it. The one I found is a pretty good match.

Gates part number 38004.

Canadian V12 cars had that pulley for many years when air injection wasn't required.

Cat:

From that mess that someone gave up on to this beauty. Beyond fabulous.

The good thing about these travails is that you know your car so much better.

Enjoy that beauty....

Errand today. Jaguar gets a ride. Coolish, so if I go early, my little dog, Coco, can ride with me.

There are actually 5 coax on the 90 according to my schematic, so if you have only two you may have a very very early 90 with the harness left over from a 89. There is coax going to both front and rear crank sensors, as well as both amps, and one going to the Lucas ECU. If you have lots of patience, just start from the plug at the Marelli ECU and work your way out. Same for the FI harness. I find all of it to be a stress reliever, lol.
Hey Mr SuperCharged, I'm a rookie to this forum but not to turning wrenches. I want to thank you for your input to the other member in this chat. As I was reading I saw that there are supposed to be more than 5 coaxil cables. I too had a engine scorching. I only found 3 coaxil wires. I have spliced in repairs to all the wires that were burnt. According to the pics I've seen of other V12's I'm missing a light blue colored sensor that is plugged into one black and one white wire that meats at the sensor and goes to the throttle position switch on the leftside of the linkage. do you know the name of tha light blue sensor?
