Close! They used the V12 version of the GM400 box, but with an adapter plate on the XK engine. They did the same with the XJR, the 4L80E has the 6.0 V12 pattern with an adapter plate.

The same as Rolls Royce and Bentley did, as they uswd the TH400... Same bell as the V12 but then an adapter platebetween block and bell.

My XJS is still on stands, with the engine hanging on chains off the front hooks & drained of coolant, & the front subframe is STILL in the shed waiting to be rebuilt!
It's hard to get motivation over winter.
