Default Bacon Bits in surge tank

Just wanted to share some pictures of my surge tank I did this weekend in case anyone was pondering whether or not to do it. The crap in the bottom is left overs after dumping and shaking the fuel out. A toothbrush and some penetrating oil+dish soap cleans the sock up if you can't wait around for a replacement.

Also noticed a wad of fine metal shavings collecting on the inside magnetic spout...what could that be from?

Thats a clean one compared to some we see.

The metal is probably from left overs in the main tank from way back when.

I have found that the filter material tends to swell up a bit, or somehow get clogged even when attempts are made to clean it, so a new one is best, I feel.

After reading horror stories about rusting fuel tanks I checked the condition of both the surge and main tanks of my -89 XJ-S this spring. I was surprised to see how clean the surge tank was and even more surprised when I took a photo of the inside of the main tank through the fuel sender hole - almost new!
