just pulled a 1988 xjs v12 out of a yard it sat for 4/5 years what should be done too it first and in what order? it already fired up second tap of the key. ran decent for bad gas going too flush it out and check the fuel lines. brakes ? wires? any service procedures? posting a few pictures in a bit. the only rot spot is the floor behind the driver. love too get her too a car show by august .

seriously though i would change the engine oil and filter, close inspect the hoses and drain and flush the rad dont forget the antifreeze, and give it a 20,000 mile service

If she has been sat in the same place for 4/5 years then you will need to replace the tyres as they will have degraded and deformed and will likely split if you put any heat or force into them.

 

Do flush out the brake fluid. Very important item that many forget about.

 

Fuel injector hoses are a must. I'd change the fluids including brake fluid. Was it stored inside off a dirt floor?

 

outside for 4 years inside concrete floor for a year the tires are excellent surprisingly at least the front are. fuel injector hoses/brakes/brake fluid basically a whole system flush? what about the tranns filter?

 

i dont like the wheels myself haha not sure what kind they are but im going too get new bbs wheels either gun metal grey or black way too much chrome for me.

 

buildint this car is a long way off right now im building a 97 pontiac firebird formula . cheap easy and fun! jags are not cheap . i have everything priced and all build specs ready . my wallet just cant take that much of a beating yet XD

thanks! i think it is too! i would love too build it for 750 to 1000hp but thats far off currently . next year or this winter is possible. twin turbo build is likely definitley going for a elctonic ignition and fuel injection will be aftermarket. but right now this big cat needs some tlc before it gets the catknipp lol

 

Stick with the stock wheels.

 

After sitting outside for that long, I'd suggest pulling up all the carpets and inspecting the floors carefully for rot.
As I mentioned, the fuel injector hoses need replacing even if they look good. They're known for bursting and causing engine fires.
Transmission filter/oil is a good idea. It may have absorbed some water, so no sense finding out the hard way.
If you check out some of the other posts in this forum, you'll see there are numerous discussions of adding horsepower/turbos/superchargers to the V12. All are a major undertaking and require the ability to print money with your home computer. Still, we're always willing to help if possible!

 

print money nah but I can wheel and deal pretty good :lol: it does have a small hole in the drivers side passenger floor. fiber glass it? or cut and weld a new peice in if so ill go stainless i have access too plenty of material.

 

i would stick stock if i had them i like the stock wheels.

 

Don't fiberglass, that's just a temporary fix. Cut out the rust and weld it up. I wouldn't use stainless either though. It has different properties than the metal you'll weld it to and will cause problems later. Stainless is tough, but doesn't like to flex. The unibody design of the XJS is designed to allow some torsional flex and a stainless patch would eventually develop micro fractures and fail. Not to mention trying to weld stainless to regular steel would be like trying to nail jello to a tree.

 

By the way, where are you located? I have a complete set (5) of factory jag wheels, but it may not be worth shipping if you're on the other side of the earth! Lol

 

coventry Rhode Island, United States of America lol my boss has had over 100 of these cars he still has a few in the junk yard I might go look at this weekend and see if I can find a decent set of rims. started it again today purrs like a big cat should! not alot of time right now so i dont get too play with her much.

 

Ahhh, you aren't too far from me then, just a few hours. I met and married my wife in Cranston. I sure miss the authentic Italian food down there!
