Battery Cut-off switch

Battery Cut-off switch
Hi Guys
simple question; does anyone have a cut-off switch fitted to their XJS battery ?
If so,
- what type
- on battery or remote
- any usage problems.
I have found that our casual use 84 has a slow battery drain significant enough to require trickle charging for starter operation.
thanks in advance

have the same problem with my 91.
i picked up this switch at advance auto parts, which is a chain store here in the states.
Buy Autocraft Top-Mount Battery Terminal Quick Disconnect Switch 20138 at Advance Auto Parts
search google images for battery disconnect switches, and you'll probably find the same switch available to you somewhere in australia.
it's not the prettiest execution, and the battery cover won't fit when the switch is in the OFF position, but it does the trick.
it's a good temporary solution, i think, that does not require any cutting or refitting of terminals.
just disconnect the negative terminal, slide the switch onto the battery, then reconnect the negative lead to the switch. (oh, disconnect the positive terminal while you're attaching the switch.)
i'll look for something more elegant, after other little bits are sorted.

If you check online at Summit you will find a ton of different switches. You should find something that works well and looks nice. I had a problem with a slow drain on my 88. Turns out it was a diode pack in the crappy Lucas alternator. After buying a couple of replacement alternators that failed in short order I bought a conversion kit from Johns Car parts that allowed the use of a GM 1 wire alternator. Way more power, easy installation, fairly inexpensive and any parts store will have a replacement if needed. I also have a 67 Econoline Van that showed the same symptoms. I thought for sure it had a short somewhere. I had it tested and guess what? Another bad diode pack!
