Default Been a while, but got back to the XJS

Been a bit since I have been trying to resolve a problem on my 84 XJS. As there are some who know what I have been doing I wont" go over the same old details, as there are past post of my progress. Just been busy since I purchased a 2003 Vanden Plas this past monday and a bit of recuperation was in order since I drove about 950 miles round trip being the old stubborn old man I am

o, I got the AAV back on last night, started the gal up and idle went hi to almost red line. check out things, yep dummy me forgot to hook up the hose to the balance pipe back up, DUH . with that done, started up did run at about 2000 rpm, adjusted the idle at the AAV runs between 1200 to 1500 rpm, but still could not get the idle adjusted lower than 1400. so now I guess its time to go over the fault checks and recheck my work

May I suggest you first block off the inlet to the AAV in the airbox, then try it. If the revs drop, then you have an AAV stuck open. If not, "just" a matter of finding the air leaks, and checking the throttle butterflies. Also check the dizzy vent is hooked up properly to the rubber pipe behind the airbox/AAV

Thanks for the response, if you remember all of my vacuum line, and other hoses are all new, but you never can tell if one has a leak, so will check them. The AAV is new forget which place I bought it, going to check the butterflies again, as well as linkage, main thing to check again is the timing and recheck the TPS, and the deceleration valves
