My 95 has had at least two sets of brand new emblems within the past 5 years. Car is garaged and delicately hand washed. They turn like this after a year. Not sure if anyone makes a good, long lasting version. My replacements all came in Jaguar bags, if I recall .

Ain't that the truth. I paid a vastly over-inflated $70 for a replacement "XJS" from JagBits (an expensive place, as I have come to realise), attached it on Jan 1, 2017, and less than two years later the chrome has completely rubbed off. I paid Ł12 for a "V12" from David Manners about the same time, which is doing fine. A little worn, but fine.
Oh, and David Manners no longer have that part, BEC22058. However, I have found an expensive one (cheaper once VAT is removed) from Germany, HERE. Taken about this time last year (May 2018). It lasted fine up until then. November 2018. Notably worse than the "V12" mark. Taken in Feb this year. Almost all gone.

Where is the first photo taken? It’s quite beautiful
my boot emblem it came over with the car around 1985/86, maybe because it was supposed to be a prototype Cabriolet, modded by Aston martin, around 80
/83! but never went any further!
the bean counters and maybe some administration types, Jag .and AM was in financial problems around that time!

The first pic is taken in the small historic post-station town of Kumagawa, on an old route linking Kyoto to the Sea of Japan. A charming little village, very well preserved, and not touristy. Also very quiet....
More details and more pics can be seen in my post on that road trip, HERE.
Contact LeRoy Sorrel in Jacksonville, FL. He stocks Jaguar parts. I bought a set of rear emblems from him for my XJS. ( ls@classiccargarage.net ) His business is on West Bay street. I've met him and have been using his services for over 5 years.
Just bringing this back up because I came across and purchased facelift emblems for 10 dollars on eBay. Someone even has them for 7 ...........These are reproductions clearly l, but they may last longer than the OEM ones that fade after a year. I can’t find the “JAGUAR” for that same price though
I Contemplated fabricating these badges in aluminum or brass through my CNC source, triple-plate chroming them and offering them for sale as upgraded and permanent replacements. I calculated I could offer them at around $80-100 US apiece. Repro CNC runs get cheaper.
Once I started digging through the available OEM and aftermarket pieces available I decided it just wouldn’t be viable. You could just buy a stash of them and replace them annually. I may do my own metal versions, not just to get rid of another couple bits of plastic, but because the font and kerning of the ‘V12’ is just ever so slightly wrong.
If I were to try refurbishing them, I’d try silver leafing before vinyl.

I was thinking about having mine dipped in chrome, but That probably would not come out looking as it should since the black plastic parts would be dipped too
Spike - it'll be interesting to see how well your el cheapo one lasts, as I've recently replaced my "XJS" with the OEM one, thinking that a cheap knock-off will fade in just a year. We should compare them this time next year....

Yes we should. I think we both use our cars similarly and keep them garaged
Hmm. That might be a point. Mine, unfortunately, is not garaged. I try to take good care of her, but she has to live outside. Not for too much longer, I hope.
Now I wonder if brushing some clear lacquer, even nail-polish, over the chrome might help....

mine is inside and we have the same results......nail polish will yellow and look bad. I think perhaps some auto clear coat spray may work.
I purchased an XJ-S and HE boot badge years ago made in stainless steel from a guy is Australia...they were perfect. Metal replacements are the way to go.

I be tried to look them up, but no results.....
my cheap 7 dollar AM eBay badge is looking pretty good though. I think I may get a couple more. Now if I can find someone selling the “Jaguar “ emblem for the same price....
