is there a better alternative to the rubber timing chain adjuster plug???

A much better one. Google Ron Kelnhofer and he will send you for a very fair price a machined aluminium one with a heatproof seal and a locking mechanism actuated by an allen key.

ordered one, and got this email
if anyone is interested in rons products now is the time

"Thank you for your inquiry. I have been manufacturing several items (see attached) for a lot of years for the Jaguar engine. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, my other business and other factors, I will not be manufacturing any more parts after my present inventory is depleted. I do have all parts available in very limited quantities at this time. I've included an attachment that should answer your questions".

Half Moon Seals are on my to-do list this winter. I was going to wait and get parts later this fall. Thank you rgp for the heads up regarding Ron's business. And thanks Greg for telling us about him. I've sent an email, and hoping he still has what I need.
