Default Can't separate fan unit from water pump pulley

Hi all,

Car is 1990, 3.6, manual.

Thought I would replace the cooling fan as it is the original and I've heard horror stories of them disintegrating at speed. Manged to get the four nuts holding the torquatrol unit to the water pump pulley loosened off and the same for the four bolts holding the fan to the torquatrol unit. The manual says to then pull the whole assembly off the four studs at the end of the pulley but I cannot shift the torquatrol unit at all - seems frozen to the end of the water pump pulley.

Have tried dribbling plus gas onto the join at the end of the pulley and on the four studs plus gentle tapping with a block of wood but everything still rock solid and not moving. Have I missed something? Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
LeeP

Default How to change the cooling fan

Hi all,

Finally sorted out how to replace my mechanical cooling fan after going up several blind alleys.
So, having an hour to spare, I thought I would reply to my own post with a few pics and some explanation of how I eventually sorted (see attached pdf). Was it all worth it? I think so as my old yellow fan did have some microcracking so I guess I will sleep easier at night.

Cheers,
LeeP

Very valuable, Lee. You might suggest to the mods putting it with the stickies.

Thanks Greg, hope all is well with you. Haven't been online much this year as have been busy getting elderly father into care plus house sale / clearance etc. Now the weather is improving will helpfully get some more Jag time.

No idea how stickies work but happy for the write up to go anywhere that it could help others if the mods are listening. Just repaying all the help I have had on here.

Cheers,
LeeP

Thanks! Trying to centralize a database for myself (and I guess others).
