Default car show today

went to a car show, and won "BEST IN CLASS" award plaque!

lots of interest in the old girl, and 16yrs since resto!

42 cars in sports car class.

had a nice dinner afterwards, cruise over 100 miles,to and from.

getting great mpg, around 18-20, light throttle, SDS , with just a touch, leans out , then one click to rich.

and all 12 cylinders, all out one side pipe, INTOXICATING!

yup, LIFE IS GOOD!

and to those interested; i added a big elec. fan along with the factory elec. car runs very cold now, like 170-175F cruising 65-70, stays cool in traffic also.

180 stats.
i guess those darn Jag viscous fans didnt last ,only 33yrs.

Did they take points off for having your bonnet propped open with a yard stick?

Default FYI guys

M90=a%s,, look at the picture again, its a hood prop rod!! DUH.

if you own your car long enough, you will get tired of replacing gas struts!

m90,, FYI, question? how many years you been working on cars??

i started in 1949,at 14 yrs old, with a 1934 FORD roadster, had the engine out and all apart at 15yrs old,, and I BEEN AT IT EVER SINCE,, SOOO, i got 62yrs experience.

i just read your drivill, and let it go as young and dumb!

HI, Calvin, refreshing to hear from you.

i have only one FPR(pic enclosed), actually there is no part of my fuel system factory, starting from tank composite fuel cell, custom pump & filter(replaceble element), all lightweight lines and fittings, billet rails, no hoses or clamps, and custom injectors 21 lbs, out to adjustable FPR, and light weight return lines.

honestly, i dont think any part of the car is factory stock!

i'll put a summary of pix together!

BUT THX for the interest.

alright awesome, my font pressure regulator clogged, and the back one was leaking, so i just hooked up some hose and a pressure regulator from an old turbo build my friend and i did, but i keep loosing fuel pressure and volume suddenly while driving, my father thinks its that front regulator but i done believe it. so wanted to see a car running with just a singular regulator.

M90 i have the car painted, but i dont have the body kit done, thats coming afterwards.

Hmmm, I'm not sure about those far rear wheel arches; it spoils the lines of the car.

Congrats, though,on your award. Jaguars need to become more common in the US, don't let the Japs and Germans have it all their own way. Problem in the UK is we have a company, (Jaguar) that want to make performance cars, but a government and local councils that want us all to go around in kiddycars.

i started in 1949,at 14 yrs old, with a 1934 FORD roadster, had the engine out and all apart at 15yrs old,, and I BEEN AT IT EVER SINCE,, SOOO, i got 62yrs experience.
when i was 14 i built my own minibike. 50cc engine, tube frame off an old electric, and disc brakes off of a mountain bike, and a custom built sprocket & hub.
then when i was 15 i tore down an old 455 i bought abandoned, with snow shoveling money. i tore it down to the block, had it cooked, cleaned, & decked at the local machine shop. then i installed some higher compression pistons, new cam bearings, new rod and mains. then i swapped it into my first car when i was 17, before i even had a drivers license.

so now im 22, ive got 3 motor swaps, 2 total engine rebuilds, 4 top end rebuilds, 4 transmission swaps (2 being FWD), and 2 transmission rebuild under my belt. i also like to port and polish the occasional blower, intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, and cylinder heads. im also running my own custom shift kits in both of my transmissions. so ive got 7 years of experience. im also swapping out the trans in my Jimmy, and rerebuilding the trans in my Grand prix as we speak. when i get bored with one i work on the other.

although i will admit that my grandfather helped me with my first trans swap.

WOW, m90 you done a lot!

i owned an engine rebilding and machine shop business, for 27yrs.

thousands of engines went thru there, and my hobby was HIGH-PERFORMANCE stuff.

and i'm quite sure i have forgotten more than you will ever know.

im quite sure youve forgotten more than i know at this point. ive only been doing this every day since i was 15, and its not a hobby i plan on stopping soon. and even if i did plan on it, im sure the broken bits would pile up faster than i could pay someone to fix them.

HI Fraser, rear arches, are actually OK in real life , i got a lot of good words on them!

that type of thinking is why England is old fashioned, and wants little cars, they dont want change.

simply put,, anyone can buy a standard car, very few custom cars are done with acceptable modifications, that have useful as well as artistic mods.

that is what got me the BEST IN CLASS award. car was different than 4 other stock XJSs, a car has to stand out in the crowd, not be just ordinary!

Judges liked roof cut off, work done well, no door handles(go figure)!, rounded door bottom edges,, WIDE rear arches(like Porsche), a hi-performance engine & trans combo.

quality of the paint work, seats Recaro leather. wood work better than any car there.

also it is hard to judge a car, unless you see it in person.

enough OK. many mods, to numerous to mention!

i didnt like the flared rear arches at first, but they definitely grew on me.
i prefer the look of the touring XJS's with all 4 arches flared out.

when you cut the roof off, did you use standard cabriolet rear wings, or did you chop the buttresses and modify the old wings?
